Things to do in and Around Preuilly in December 2010

Friday & Saturday 3 & 4 Téléthon. Once again we will be involved in the France wide fundraiser for research into muscular dystrophy and support for those suffering. You can meet Célestine at the Hôtel de Ville, Preuilly at 14.00h on the Saturday.

Friday 10 & Sunday 1250th anniversary of the death of Mado Robin - the highest voice in the world. Born at Yzeures-sur-Creuse in 1918, the opera singer Mado Robin had a brief career. She made her debut at the Opéra de Paris in 1945 and was much aclaimed on the big stages of Europe and America. Very popular in her own country, she gave numerous recitals and appeared frequently in radio and television programmes. She died in 1960 and is buried in the cemetery at Yzeures. The museum dedicated to her holds a collection of objects that belonged to her displayed in glass cases, copies of photographs, posters, costumes and sets for her favourite roles, videos and recordings. On Friday 10 December at 20.30h and Sunday 12 December at 15.00h there will be tributes to Mado Robin at the salle des fêtes in Yzeures. A number of our excellent local choirs will be performing.

Friday - Sunday 10-12 – A Free Market - in addition to the Christmas Market the City of Tours has organised a big Free Market in the foyer of the Town Hall. These Free Markets have become very trendy. They seek to support and promote young artists and makers, who don't pay for pitches to sell their products.

That poster looks particularly tasty, given the current temperatures and what's on the ground outside!
The word verification is "ectox", which must be something to make your exoskeleton look plumper.

Is that a new banner? It looks great....

Diogenes: whisper it quietly, but even though it could be a "live" photo, it's a repeat of a banner I did for the beginning of this year.

pg. surely it's toasty inside though?

Really appreciate your monthly 'things to do in around Preuilly'. It helps us discover more about this bit of Touraine.

BTW the Gargantua changed management earlier this year and is not the same as it was according to people we know in the village. We've eaten at l'image-- a great lunch! :-). Auberge de la Source in St Flo does a great value set lunch too--only problem with these is you need a siesta to recover afterwards!

Niall n Antoinette: Thanks for that. We were wondering why their tables had suddenly appeared on the Post Office's front garden.

Simon: Post Office has now moved into Mairie and big discussions are ongoing as to what to do with house where Post Office was...
